Alami Family Portrait - westlake, ca

at first glance you might swear that we traveled far and wide to find such a beautiful location to photograph the alami's family portrait. we did...their front yard! we had but 5 minutes before the sunset and the result was proof that "when you see it...you see it." more often than not i find beautiful, sometime, down right spectacular locations in the families home, yard or neighborhood. this does a few things. it allows the family to be comfortable in a surrounding that is uniquely their own, eliminates undo stress of traveling to an unfamiliar location and most importantly documents their life in an environment that they will never soon forget. i have to comment on one thing however; i have never protested to be nor have ever been called a "whisperer"...but take a look a the yorkshire terrier. even the family was in awe.

Nary Family Portrait - thousand oaks, ca

sometime having a relationship with a family allows for some very spirited and fun portrait sessions. take for example the nary's. this family has a heart the size of rhode island and give it no additional thought about giving you more if needed. the family dynamic is apparent as seen in this family portrait. if you don't see the laughter in their eyes...your looking at the wrong image. photographing a family portrait allows karen and i to really get to know the family in a more personal way than just having them show up and taking their picture in a studio. the time we have taken to get to know some of our families have led to some breathtaking portraits not to mention some incredible relationships.

Jane and Gary - los olivos, ca

i often think of times that karen and i have a great life doing what we love to do. because, we get to share in moments that are personal and very heart felt. jane and gary knew what they wanted from the day we met and they wanted their wedding captured in a true candid and unscripted way. sometimes being in the moment brings into focus things that normally go un-noticed... sometimes being in the moment makes you too focused and you miss the little things that make moments. moments at jane and gary's wedding would be spontaneous and free without all the fluff. the results is one of my favorite portraits of a bride and groom to date. knowing that jane wanted to spend what few moments she had together with her family and friends and not parading around on a "photoshoot" i quickly stole them away to give them "our wedding" gift. the shoot took no more than 5 minutes because as karen went through the courtyard to ask the newlyweds for a "moment" of their time i was scooting a chair up to the french doors, where the sun was shinning, in the lobby of the the fess parker inn & spa. hearing the shutter go off and knowing in my heart of hearts that "that was it", i smiled and knew then that that moment had been captured on film for generation to come.

Thomas Family Portrait - westlake village, ca

i rarely show up to my photo sessions on time any more. there is so much to do before hand and i never have enough time to take it all in...so i show up wayyyyyyyyy ahead of time and soak it all in. this allows me to be more apart of the portrait session than merely a picture taker. the family suggested this location for it was dear to their heart and the family recalled fond memories of long strolling walks in this park. never been there i was immediately pleased. the tree seemed to be begging me to photograph the family under its cooling canopy. lovely family and an a picture perfect day made this portrait come alive.

Rachael and Doug - camarillo, ca

driving up to bella victorian vineyard on an ol' street trolley one immediately finds themselves amongst friends, not to mention one beautiful location. rachael and doug's day

was full of unexpected acts of her free spirit and love of her family and friends. the bride wore red and white checkered vans under her victorian inspired gown, the bride and groom danced under the stars while being serenaded by an acoustic guitar to an emotional moment when the mother of the bride clenched her daughters christening gown as she spoke so lovingly about her "chelly", to the bride running throughout the vines paying tribute to the little girl inside. the care free spirit of the couple was shared by her whole family and friends. if i wasn't there to see it for my own eyes, i would have sworn that the sunset, over the rolling hills was a bit longer than most sunsets over the ocean.

Cara and Chad - santa monica, ca

timeless photography. we have all heard of it, but what is it and what does it mean? cara and chad love their time with their family, friends and with each other. and it shows.


the time that they spend with those they love is very apparent. it is as if the time they are together stops and or you never want it to end. timeless.


i love being an artist today. life is all about connecting with those that surround you. our photography is connecting with so many lives around us that our life is full of "artful moments".

Headshots in the Park - westlake, ca

back by popular demand! we started the "headshots in the park" program a few years ago as a special thank you to all the mom's in our community. we realized how difficult it is for mother's to get their children out the door, let along get them ready for a nice photograph.

so, what better way to get a beautiful photograph of the kids than to get them playing in the park. by developing our lighting to emulate a more natural and softer feel not found in any studio the results and response to this approach has been incredible. not to mention, the children have a great time and are not at all told to "stay still".
